Wiz Khalifa Announces Album Title And Release Date

It was a long time coming, but it appears that Pittsburgh’s very own Wiz Khalifa is ready to unleash his long awaited Atlantic Records-debut to the masses. Thus, the “Black & Yellow”-rapper informed the world via Ustream that his album will be titled Rolling Papers with a release date set for March 29th. He also gave a proper explanation on the title’s significance.

“It’s an appropriate title. It’s called Rolling Papers, like the papers that you roll, the papers that I roll, the papers that we smoke. But it’s deeper than that too. I thought of this before I even started recording the album and before it was a full idea. It’s not just about the weed thing. It’s bigger than that. My career really took off when I started smoking papers.

The second reason I called it Rolling Papers is when I left Warner Bros. [Records], I sort of got my ‘rolling papers.’ I got my contract, fu**ing rolled up and smoked. And I was able to walk and I was able to leave and I was able to do my thing and I was able to capitalize off that. So that’s another pair of papers that I really needed in my life.

The third reason why I named it Rolling Papers, I quit writing a long time ago. I stopped physically writing it down or putting it in my BlackBerry or iPhone. I write notes down, but I don’t write whole verses, so it was like saying goodbye to the paper. The paper’s rolling out too. So everything is real natural. The first thing that came to my head is how I really, really feel. I feel like this is my most natural sound. I paid the most attention to this shit when I did it. I was real focused. I was real keyed in on this shit when I was working on it and I didn’t use any paper, except for [the rolling papers].”

As featured guests on the record Wiz named Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Too $hort, and frequent collaborator Curren$y. The official tracklist and cover art will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Jay-Z & Will Smith Form Film Partnership

It appears Jay-Z is at again, this following a development that his 40/40 clubs would hit several major airports across the nation. Now the hip-hop mogul teams up with Will Smith for a new business venture that will develop and and produce films. One of the projects currently being discussed is the re-imagination of the classic Broadway musical “Annie”, which Willow Smith would star in. No word on the name yet, you can read the full details.

"Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have formed a joint venture with Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter to develop and produce major motion pictures. One of the projects being discussed is the re-imagination of the classic Broadway musical ANNIE as a vehicle for Willow Smith to star. The film will be developed with Sony Pictures Entertainment and produced by Overbrook Entertainment and Mr. Carter.

The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow. This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative, and innovative.”

After his incarceration Lil’ Wayne is looking to reconquer the music world in the 2K11. Thus it comes as no surprise that the Young Money-founder will receive adequate media coverage. In his cover story for Rolling Stone, Weezy opens up for the first time about his time in prison and gives us a little recount on that dark period of his life. See some excerpts of the piece below.

- When Wayne sat court-side at a recent Miami Heat/New Orleans Hornets game he was upset that Lebron James and Dwayne Wade never came over to talk to him. “Them niggas never speak to a nigga,” he says. “They don’t chuck me the deuce or nothing. Nigga spent all that money on them fucking tickets … Come holla at me. We sit right by them little bitch-ass niggas. At least come ask me why I’m not rooting for you.”

- In prison he read biographies of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Joan Jett, Vince Lombardi and Anthony Kiedis. “[Kiedis'] Scar Tissue was really good,” he says. “I also read the Bible for the first time. It was deep! I liked the parts where some character was once this, but he ended up being that. Like he’d be dissing Jesus, and then he ends up being a saint. That was cool.”

- He spent his final month in jail in solitary after he was caught with an iPod charger in his cell. It could have been worse: He also had a watch with an MP3 player on it, but another inmate took the rap. “He was a solid nigga,” says Wayne. “Shout-out to Charles…Solitary was the worst. No TV. No radio. No commissary. Basically you’re in there 23 hours a day.” The only upside was he had a window where he could watch cars go by. “I used to sit at that motherfucker all day,” he says.

The cover story can be read it in its entirety in the February issue of Rolling Stone — on stands and online in the digital archives on January 21st.
